The role will provide clinical leadership to the wider team whilst on duty and will take the direction from the Wairoa Clinical Lead and support to the vision of the Specialist Community Services Group Leadership Team. This role has a focus on addressing disparities in health care provision.
About the Team/Service/ LocationWairoa Health is a rural hospital and health centre that provides 24/7 emergency care (categorised Level 2). There are nine inpatient beds, two Emergency beds, maternity and primary birthing care, some outpatient services, and same-day surgical services (this includes dental) which are currently delivered by a visiting surgical bus.
Te Wairoa Medical Centre is the local primary care provider and is co-located at Wairoa Health. This General Practice provides primary care services, and some of its medical staff also work across the inpatient ward and Emergency Department. There may be opportunities for medical staff work across both primary care and the rural hospital and emergency department.
Wairoa offers challenging and interesting medicine, with the opportunity to make a real difference to health outcomes for an underserved community. The region has a high of Maori, socioeconomically disadvantaged and geographically isolated population who represent a tight knit community that values their health service.
Wairoa is surrounded by picturesque farmland and the sea nearby. Lake Waikaremoana is 50km away from Wairoa with renowned walking tracks and fishing; and Mahi Beach hosts good surfing, diving and fishing. There are airports in Napier and Gisborne providing domestic flights to Wellington and Auckland and the rest of New Zealand.
About youYou must have Vocational or General Registration (or be eligible for) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) to be considered and to have: * Core Level 7, APLS and NLS credentialled or the ability to be credentialed in rural hospital medicine is essential.
- EMST (or equivalent) credentialed or the ability to be credentialed in rural hospital medicine
