About the Role As a General Medicine Registrar you will working rostered shifts to complete ward rounds, provide ward care for admitted patients during the day and some evenings, and admitting patients from the ED.

Depending on stage of training there can be weekly outpatient clinic or Exercise Treadmill clinics. Registrars provide support for SHOs and HOs and assist in coordinating the weekly in-service teaching program. All of the above are with close consultant support.
Applications are invited for the 2027 year for a 6 month General Medicine Registrar attachment at Thames Hospital. This position is RACP accredited for both Advanced and Basic trainees for 6 months of training. We highly encourage applications from our Māori communities.
Position Description General Medicine Thames About the Team/Service As the General Medicine Registrar you would be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team working within the Inpatient unit. The unit generally has 35-45 inpatients with 3 SMO and 3-4 RMOs.

The rest of the team consists of Nursing staff, a pharmacist, allied staff and a Kaitiaki. We also have medical students. Our team provides General Medicine and Rehabilitation care including:acute stroke and heart attackacute infectionshigh acuity care such as DKA infusions or non-invasive ventilationpalliative care (including one SMO being a Palliative Medicine Specialist)RehabilitationBedside proceduresLP, pleural procedures, paracentesis, access to POCUS We operate as three ward teams with consultant and 1-2 RMOs.

Registrars have the chance to work closely with their consultant each week. We have strong educational focus with weekly hospital meetings, and weekly in-service RMO teaching (peer-to-peer, or SMO led). The run is accredited by RACP (Basic or Advanced Training) and RNZCGP-DRHM We strive for a relaxed professionalism and strong interdisciplinary working.

About you Hold General Registration with Medical Council of New Zealand, or Provisional Registration if you are suitably experienced but recently arrived in New Zealand.Have at least 2 years, usually 3 years of postgraduate experience.
