Sous Chef

A busy Day time Cafe in Whangarei is looking for a chef.

Minimum Hours: 30 hours a week

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications:

• Ability to perform efficiently under pressure
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to following instructions
• A true passion for exceptional food and the hospitality industry
• A proactive attitude with excellent teamwork skills
• Willingness to work extended hours
• A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience

• Develop and design menus, forecast food and labor costs, and manage food inventory
• Oversee the quality of dishes throughout all stages of preparation and presentation
• Collaborate with the owner and kitchen staff to resolve any food preparation challenges
• Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance on culinary processes
• Prepare and cook food to the highest standards
• Ensure compliance with all hygiene and safety regulations
• Must be responsible for recruiting and training kitchen staff
• Skilled in the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of kitchen equipment, such as blenders, ovens, grills, and stand mixers Inspect food and ingredients for freshness to maintain quality
• Portion, arrange, and garnish food to meet established standards
• Estimate food requirements and coordinate preparation accordingly
• Contribute to the development and innovation of new menu items
• Interact with customers to ensure an outstanding dining experience
• Take charge of kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude, ensuring effective communication with management and team members
• Adhere to cooking techniques, quality standards, and all relevant kitchen policies and procedures
