About the Role
We are looking for a Mental Health Care Assistant to join our team Te Awhina, the Acute mental health inpatient unit at Whanganui Hospital, working alongside acutely unwell people. Each day will be different, and you will have the opportunity to work in with patients who need your care and support.The role is an opportunity work as part of a dynamic and passionate team in an acute mental health setting. Your direct impact will influence the people we care for during vulnerable times in their journey through mental health.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Te Awhina is a 12-bed inpatient unit for people over the age of 18. Based on the Whanganui Hospital campus, Te Awhina treats service users who are in the acute phase of their mental illness.
In addition to the treatment offered, the service provides sensory modulation rooms, day activities and peer support. The multi-disciplinary teamwork in partnership with service users and their family/whanau to support their recovery. We offer day activities where service users can express themselves creatively to help in their recovery journey.

About you
Ideally you will hold the following attributes:
- Skills, experience or qualifications suited to the role
- Team player with good communication skills
- A passion for people and the community and a desire to help and support others in mental health
- Physically fit and able to lift
- Motivated to maintain high level of knowledge and skill
- Cultural sensitivity
This position is ideal for a Mental Health Care Assistant keen to have an impact into the lives of our tangata whaiora and their whanau. This position provides an opportunity to work as part of a supportive integrated multi-disciplinary team.
