Junior Chef / Kitchen Hand; High Tide Cafe, Paihia
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Junior Chef / Kitchen Hand to join our team at High Tide Café & Eatery in Paihia; one of the Bay’s busiest and most loved cafés!
High Tide Café has undergone a full renovation and rebrand, and has quickly become a go-to spot for locals, visitors, and tour groups alike. With a strong summer season ahead, we’re expanding our kitchen team and looking for someone eager to grow, learn, and make a real contribution.
- About the Role
This is a part-time/casual position over the summer season, covering quieter periods and supporting the kitchen when our main chefs are unavailable. You’ll work closely with our experienced team, but will also have the opportunity to run solo shifts during off-peak times.
Your key duties will include:- General kitchen prep and cleaning duties
- Cabinet and light baking prep (muffins, slices, sandwiches, etc.)
- Cooking and plating meals from our breakfast menu during off-peak hours
- Following hygiene and food-safety standards at all times
- Supporting the chefs to keep the kitchen running smoothly
- About You
- Some previous kitchen or café experience (prep, kitchen hand, or short-order cooking)
- A genuine interest in food and a willingness to learn from experienced chefs
- The ability to work independently and stay organised under pressure
- A positive attitude, reliability, and strong communication with both kitchen and FOH teams
- Have basic baking or cabinet prep experience
- Are local to Paihia or surrounding areas
