We're in search of a dedicated Assistant Manager (2IC) to join our dairy farming team at Ngai Tahu Farming.

As the Assistant Manager, you'll be a crucial support to our Dairy Farm Manager, ensuring the smooth operation and performance of our dairy unit. Your responsibilities will include assisting with employee development, operational efficiency, and the implementation of sustainable farming practices.

In the absence of the Farm Manager, you'll take the lead in day-to-day planning and staff management, ensuring our farm continues to thrive.

Key Responsibilities – Nga Kawenga Takohanga
  • Support the Dairy Farm Manager in farm reporting and performance review.
  • Implement and improve farm management systems and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to animal welfare policies and implement preventative health programs.
  • Oversee animal feeding and implement feeding policies effectively.
  • Manage milking activities, including troubleshooting and training new staff.
  • Assist in the efficient running of the calving and calf rearing operations, ensuring optimal health and welfare.
  • Assist in mating and breeding activities, achieving target rates.
  • Maintain on farm infrastructure, including machinery, fencing, irrigation and effluent systems.
  • Provide operational leadership and support to the farm team.
Qualifications - Nga Tohu Matauranga
  • Appropriate dairy industry
  • Has or working towards GROWSAFE approved handler
  • Full Driver’s
Experience - Nga Pukenga
  • Minimum 3 years of dairy sector experience.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Relevant dairy industry training and certifications.
  • Proficiency in farm management systems and procedures.
