Position Title: Carpenter
Reporting Relationships: Foreman / Project Manager
Type of work & hours: Full-time, permanent (apprenticeship).
Minimum guaranteed hours: 32 hours per week (typical range 38–45 hours).

Standard hours of work: Monday–Thursday 8.00am – 5.00pm

Friday 8.00am – 4.00pm

Overtime may be required from time to time to meet project deadlines.

Pay rates: $35 - $50 per hour (NZD), depending on candidate experience, capability and qualification.

Benefits/leave: 4 weeks annual leave, paid birthday off, regular team get togethers

The Role

The Carpenter is responsible for producing high quality carpentry work in a skillful, efficient, and professional manner across residential renovation and new build projects. The role focuses on dimensional accuracy, excellent timber selection, productivity, and workmanship while contributing to an exceptional experience for clients.

Carpenters are expected to work collaboratively as part of a high performing site team and consistently uphold Cammell Projects’ standards of quality, presentation, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce high quality carpentry work across all stages of residential construction.
  • Deliver excellent dimensional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Select and use materials, particularly timber, to a high standard.
  • Maintain company tools, plant, and equipment in excellent condition.
  • Maintain personal tool kit to a professional standard.
  • Keep a safe, tidy, and well organised work area at all times.
  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance, including correct PPE and safe work practices.
  • Wear company uniform in good condition and maintain a professional personal appearance.
  • Maintain company vehicles in excellent condition, including required logs and checks.
  • Strive for strong productivity while never compromising quality.
  • Demonstrate excellent punctuality, timekeeping, and reliability.
  • Complete daily timesheets accurately and on time.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, contractors, and supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with apprentices, providing guidance, encouragement, and support to help develop their skills, confidence, and workmanship.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with clients and consultants.
  • Show initiative and maintain a solution focused attitude on site.
  • Uphold Cammell Projects’ values of QUALITY, INNOVATION & EXCELLENCE at all times.

  • Accurate and timely completion of timesheets and documentation.
Minimum role requirements (Qualified Carpenter)
  • Trade-qualified Carpenter (NZ Certificate in Carpentry – Level 4 or recognised equivalent).
  • Proven experience delivering residential new builds and/or renovations to a high standard.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and details; confident set-out and measurement skills.
  • Competent across core carpentry tasks (framing, cladding, interior fit-out, fixings and finishing) with excellent attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and commitment to safe work practices, including consistent PPE use.
  • Reliable transport and a full, clean NZ driver licence (or the ability to obtain one).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with apprentices, subcontractors and the wider site team.
  • Maintain a professional personal tool kit and care for company tools, plant and vehicles.
  • Ability to pass any pre-employment checks required by the company and provide references.
