- Genetics sectionFull time, 2-year fixed-term position working 40 hours per weekHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in theprinciples of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health systemthat serves all New Zealanders.About the roleThis is an exciting opportunity for a professional, highlymotivated Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join the Genetics Section atCanterbury Health Laboratories (www.chl.co.nz).The Genetics Section offers an extensive portfolio of tests for a wide range ofclinical applications including single gene and mitochondrial disorders,pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and molecular oncology/haematology.
Over the next twoyears, our team is leading an exciting clinical pilot
- evaluating whole genomesequencing and comprehensive genomic profiling of cancer in the NZ publichealth system.
- typically 5 x 8hr shifts with some flexibility in shift start/finishtimes.
Our current workload pressure point is in molecular pathology, howeverthere is potential for the successful applicant to also work in molecularoncology or cytogenetics depending on prior experience.We are ideally looking for an MLT with at least 5 years'experience working as a technician in a diagnostic testing laboratory.
However,applications from trainee medical laboratory technicians or laboratoryassistants may be considered as full training will be provided.About youSkills and experienceThis role requires the following:Registered (or eligible to be registered) as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council, with a current Annual Practising CertificatePrevious experience working as a technician in a diagnostic genetic laboratoryAbility to work independently but also part of a teamHigh level of organisation and excellent time management skills Working at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuringexcellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
