**The Role | Mo tenei turanga mahi**

The role of the youth worker involves working alongside the taiohi to meet their day-to-day needs, support with different activities and share the administrative work with the team.

In this role you will:

  • Support young people between the ages of 12-18 in a residential respite setting with a core focus on supporting their mental health through a trauma informed lens
  • Be busy supporting young people with independent daily living skills, help them plan and work towards individual goals and support them with activities or outings
  • Have good people skills and able to work independently and within a wider team.
  • Might attend appointments and advocate for our taiohi
  • Be prepared to do whatever it takes for our taiohi - cooking, cleaning, gardening, and helping with everyday tasks.

**As a casual youth worker, you will be covering a range of shifts (including morning, afternoon and awake nights) as needed when permanent staff are not able to work.**

**You | Mou**

You will:

  • Hold a Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (NZCHW) or a recognised equivalent or be studying towards a recognised equivalent.
  • Have experience in working with young people and an understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Have both de-escalation skills and relationship building skills.??
  • Hold a current full New Zealand driver's?
  • Hold a current New Zealand first aid certificate or be prepared to obtain one.
  • Have knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
