In partnership with our community, Environment Southland (Southland Regional Council) is responsible for the sustainable management of Southland's natural resources - our land, our water, our air and our coast. As a Regional Council we operate across a large geographical region which extends from Stewart Island to Fiordland.

As a result of an internal promotion, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Team Leader Corporate Reporting. The purpose of this role is to lead a team that provides high quality, accurate and timely financial information and support to Council and the Executive team, to ensure that internal management and governance commitments and statutory obligations are met.

Emphasis for this role is on:

  • Ensuring that Council's corporate reporting activities are well planned, delivered efficiently and effectively, in line with good practice and legislative requirements.
  • Creating working relationships with budget holders such that the Corporate Reporting team are seen as their trusted financial advisors.
  • Ensuring integrity of financial information and systems and that all reporting complies with Council policy and legislative requirements.
  • Leading and supporting the Corporate Reporting Team to ensure the successful completion of the roles and functions within the team.
  • Supporting good asset management practices and reporting by overseeing the systems and processes to allow for the accurate recording and reporting of assets for financial and insurance purposes.
Knowledge/Experience
  • Chartered Accountant qualification is required
  • At least five years practical experience in an accounting role including management and financial reporting, preferably within Local Government
  • Experience with managing external audit processes
  • Experience with sophisticated budgeting systems, financial planning models with strong Excel, data analysis and modelling skills
  • Ability to recognise and solve problems through the analysis and understanding of accounting principles
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrated ability to articulate the vision and take people on a change journey
  • Proven experience working to solve complex problems with long term solutions
  • Outstanding communication and relationship building skills with experience of developing credibility with senior managers

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $116,910 - $123,405.
