Fixed Term, Part Time, Primary School Teacher Aide (Term Time Only)

Wa Ora Montessori School is an Area School based in Lower Hutt, Wellington, catering for approximately 300 children and is the only Montessori School in New Zealand that nurtures the child from 0 to 18years. We are a community-based school with close connections to our whanau (families).

We are looking for a Teacher Aide to support Primary School aged students starting Monday 20th April, 2026 (beginning of Term 2). The hours are 22.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9.30am – 2.30pm (including 30mins non-paid lunch break) and are worked term time only (there is no requirement to work during the school holidays).

You will also be required to attend Teacher Only Days and Staff Meetings after school as necessary and will complete a timesheet for these hours.

Please note that this is a fixed term position until the end of Term 4, Friday 12th December, 2026 as these hours are Board funded. It is likely that this role will be extended in 2027, however this will be dependent on what further funding is made available from the Board.

The ideal candidate would have an interest in early literacy, be an effective communicator and bring enthusiasm, empathy and patience. You will be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and be willing to implement specific plans as per the children’s needs, including behavioural, special health and learning requirements.

Previous experience working with children in a similar position would be desirable.

Applications close 3pm Friday 27th March, 2026. Applicants for this position must have the legal right to work in New Zealand and any offer of employment is also conditional upon a satisfactory safety check, which includes a police vet.

An application form must be completed for your application to be processed. For an application pack and further information, please contact Jo Dyer, Office Manager, via email joanne@waora.school.nz
