The full-time (1.0 FTE) Prevocational Medical Education Fellow (MEF) role at Te Toka Tumai is open for applications for the 2027 Training Year.
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) and working with the CETU team, the MEF will be responsible for delivering and supporting the education, training, and wellbeing of prevocational house officers at Te Toka Tumai.
Responsibilities of the MEF include:
PGY1 and PGY2 medical education and teaching
Providing orientation to house officers new to Te Toka Tumai
The advocacy, mentoring, and pastoral and professional support of house officers
Quality improvement initiatives
Being the liaison between the House Officers and Te Toka Tumai leadership team
The opportunity to undertake medical education research projects, and to present at relevant events
This is a 12-month fixed-term position (starting 2 February 2027) aligned to the Registrar clinical training year. There is opportunity to build a clinical component into the MEF role, by negotiation with the DCT. There are also opportunities for collaboration with the other districts in the Northern Region.
The candidates we are looking for will:
Have a current Annual Practising Certificate with the Medical Council of New Zealand
Have full registration with MCNZ, i.e. achieved endorsement removal; or be a registrar at an early stage of training
Have an interest in education and training with some experience in teaching, coordination, management and/or leadership experience in medical education
Have experience in complex health environments, preferably within the metro Auckland region
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and be trustworthy
Preferably have pastoral care experience
Be flexible, positive, and a proactive problem-solver
Have great time management skills with the ability to prioritise
Hold a record of punctuality and good attendance
Have sound clinical skills and references
Be able to work autonomously within agreed boundaries
Be committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in education and training initiatives
