The Role:
We are seeking a Contract Specialist to join our team on a 7-month fixed-term contract as maternity leave cover, starting in early March 2026.
The Contract Specialist is responsible for overseeing the implementation and adherence of best practices and policies/contractual agreements across all business departments.
This role requires a meticulous individual with a strong background in commercial law, procurement, and/or debt recovery, with relevant experience.

The Contract Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with best practices in contract management, procurement, legal, and credit terms, while fostering strong relationships with suppliers and customers and the Senior Leadership Team.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to contribute to the success and growth of JNL.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the implementation of key and financially significant contractual agreements across all business departments to ensure adherence to terms and conditions.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of contractual obligations, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of adherence to policies, processes and contracts to ensure alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and customers to facilitate effective communication and resolution of contractual matters.
  • Evaluate and negotiate contract terms, including procurement, legal, and credit terms, to optimise value and minimize risk for the organization.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and controls to enhance procurement and contract management efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in contract management, procurement, commercial law and/or debt recovery.
  • Strong understanding of contract law principles, procurement processes, and financial analysis.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex contracts and negotiating favourable terms.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certification in contract management (e.g., CPCM, CFCM) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand's legal and regulatory framework related to contracts and procurement.
