Field and Laboratory Technician
We are New Zealand’s only 100% locally owned forage plant breeding company and aim to provide our customers with pasture, forage and crop varieties that offer very real performance advantages, through improving livestock performance, farm systems and bottom-line results.
One of our long-term staff members is moving on to a new adventure, which opens this seldom available vacancy. Cropmark seeks a suitably experienced and / or technically qualified and highly motivated person to join our plant breeding and research team.The position will be based in Darfield, Canterbury, near Christchurch and will play a vital role in supporting our plant breeding and product development activities in both the field and the laboratory.
The Technician will work closely with the company’s plant breeding and research teams ensuring processes are completed on time and to a high standard. This is a highly varied support role. Duties include trial preparation for our agronomic trials, performing various lab-based tasks, sampling, sample preparation, field processes and supervisory responsibilities such as training and guiding seasonal casual staff.
An ideal candidate will be reliable, a self-starter, strong team player, good communicator with strong organisational abilities and possess good leaderships qualities. The ability to multitask different projects and be flexible to ensure seasonal work is completed in a timely manner is a must.Attention to detail is a prerequisite along with a willingness to learn. Basic Microsoft Office skills are needed (Word, Excel, Outlook). Some physical field work is necessary from time to time so the candidate will need a suitable level of fitness.
This is a full-time position. Qualifications in a relevant field and prior experience are preferred, however training will be given for the right candidate to ensure their success in this role. The successful applicant will be working in a small, dedicated team ensuring exposure to a wide variety of learning opportunities.
An appropriate remuneration package will be structured to recognise experience and performance along with life and income protection insurance. This will be discussed further with and offered to the successful applicant.
