We are searching for a superstar to join us as a Team Coordinator/Leader in our Haumanu Reo a-Waha Speech Language Therapy (SLT) department at Christchurch Health Campus in this fixed term opportunity. We are a dedicated Speech Language Therapy team working to provide high quality evidence based clinical care and innovative practice in a busy and dynamic health setting. The Speech Language Therapy service offers supportive team environments with experienced colleagues, regular clinical supervision and a wide range of opportunities for continuing professional development.
As a Team Coordinator/Leader you will be primarily responsible for co-ordinating and providing leadership for the Speech Language Therapy team working across medical/surgical specialties. The medical/surgical team provides a service to all adult clinical areas in the acute hospital setting, including but not limited to; general medicine, general surgery, respiratory, stroke, neurology/neurosurgery, orthopaedics, cardiology, cardiothoracics, oncology, otolaryngology, head neck cancer and critical care.
We also provide inpatient and outpatient videofluoroscopy and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) services, as well as outpatient head neck cancer, radiotherapy and voice services. In this role you will carry a clinical caseload across the inpatient wards, as well as utilise your skills in the education, training and supervision of other staff.

In this role, you will be responsible for:
- The day-day management and co-ordination of Speech Language Therapists and the Speech Language Therapy Kaiawhina - Allied Health Assistant
- Management of a clinical caseload within the medical/surgical team and direct delivery of a health care service
- As part of a leadership team, you will be working together to ensure the best service delivery and patient care is achieved
- Provision of clinical leadership and supervision of clinical activity and practice
- Implementation of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives to meet the strategic goals of the organisation
- Provision of support to the line manager by taking on delegated leadership and operational tasks for the team
About You
Your skills will include:
- Knowledge of the unique Aotearoa context, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and biculturalism, including demonstration of Maori responsiveness and culturally safe care
- Commitment to the provision of quality care for patients and their whanau
- Proven ability to engage and motivate a team toward shared goals and the provision of quality Speech Language Therapy services
- Ideally you will bring leadership and management experience as well as excellent clinical and supervisory experience
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a supportive and reliable team member to ensure the best health outcomes for patients and their family/whanau
- Advanced clinical skills and experience with the adult population, ideally within an acute inpatient hospital setting, including experience and competency with videofluoroscopy +/- FEES
- Eligibility for registration with the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists Association (NZSTA) is essential
