YOUR DAY-TO-DAY: SHAPING THE LANDSCAPEAs an Excavator Operator in our Earthworks OR Drainage team (depending on your preference), you'll be hands-on, preparing and shaping the land for a huge variety of projects. From retaining walls to residential and commercial developments, you'll be the one making the ground work.
This means you'll be busy with excavation, filling, carting, and compaction.
Excavator Operators are responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery to prepare and shape construction sites. They play a critical role in civil projects by moving, excavating, leveling, and compacting earth, rock, and other materials to create stable foundations for infrastructure.
- Select, fit, and remove attachments (buckets, blades, scoops, rock breakers etc.) depending on the job requirements.
- Excavate, drill, break, and gouge out materials to prepare sites for construction, roading, or infrastructure projects.
- Spread and compact soil, gravel, and other materials to create stable foundations for roads, dams, or buildings.
- Load and transport materials safely using appropriate equipment.
- Monitor machine performance and adjust controls to regulate speed, pressure, and flow.
- Conduct routine servicing such as lubricating, cleaning, and refueling to keep equipment in good working order.
- Ensure site safety by maintaining awareness of other workers, obstacles, and environmental conditions.
- Follow operational procedures and regulations to minimise risks and comply with workplace standards.
- Prepare and position machinery correctly before starting tasks.
- Assist in building infrastructure such as roads, subdivisions, water supply systems, and treatment plants for example, however not limited to.
- Work collaboratively with site teams to meet project timelines and specifications.
- Excavators (20tn-50tn) skilled in Earthworks and Civil Works
- Excavators (20tn) skilled in Drainage Works
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
To hit the ground running, you'll generally need:- 2 years Experience in the Civil Works industry or something similar
- A WTR endorsement
- A Full Class 2 licence
- A flexible attitude and a strong work ethic
- A safety-first mindset
- To be a NZ Citizen, Resident, or hold a current Open NZ Work Visa
- Class 4 Licence
- Compaction knowledge & experience
- Experience driving trucks or other machinery
- NDM (Nuclear Density Meter) Testing Certification
