Chef

We are looking for 2 dedicated chefs for our busy café in Christchurch, Canterbury region. We guarantee a minimum of 30 hours per week with a pay rate between $28 - $35 per hour depending on your skills and it is a permanent role.

This role operates on a rostered schedule, and you will be expected to be available for weekends, late-night shifts, and public holidays. Flexibility in working hours is essential for this position.

Job Description:

• Responsible for the preparation and cooking of food items according to approved specifications and recipes, ensuring food is prepared on time and within designated schedules.
• Planning menus, estimating food costs
• Check all materials and foodstuffs, ensuring they are used before spoilage.
• Supervise tasks performed by assistants and other workers in the designated section.
• Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures
• Maintain efficient sanitation services, garbage disposal, and chilling systems in compliance with regulations and requirements.
• Ensure machinery is operated, cleaned, and stored correctly; kitchen drawers and shelves are kept clean and tidy, with regular inspections and timely corrections

Essential skills and attributes required:

• At least minimum two years of experience in a fast-paced environment or a minimum of level 4 or above qualification in cookery or hospitality or any field
• Personal pride in presentation and professionalism
• Naturally enjoys being around people and contributing to a positive work environment
• Efficient, accurate and a strong appreciation for following systems
• Consistent performance no matter the pressure from guests, team and outside influences
