About the role

We're looking for a proactive and experienced Team Leader – Building Compliance to lead a high-performing team responsible for delivering critical functions under the Building Act 2004. From building warrants of fitness to earthquake-prone buildings, your role will be central to ensuring safety and compliance across our built environment.

You will:

  • Leading a skilled team to deliver consistent, high-quality building compliance services.
  • Overseeing key functions including building warrant of fitness, certificates of public use, pool barriers, certificates of acceptance, and earthquake-prone buildings.
  • Developing and refining best practice processes for complaint response, compliance resolution, enforcement, and cost recovery.
  • Supporting and managing investigations and inspections through to clear, well-documented outcomes.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure integrated and consistent compliance management.
  • Providing technical guidance and coaching to staff while managing workloads, performance, and professional development.

About you

You'll be a confident leader with strong technical knowledge of building compliance? You'll thrive on solving complex problems, and guiding team members.

You'll need to show us that you have:

  • significant experience of working in building compliance or a similar field
  • strong working knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and related legislation and regulations
  • strong investigation and report writing skills, with experience in preparing enforcement documentation for legal proceedings
  • proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire and develop a high-functioning team.
  • A practical approach to managing compliance issues and delivering fair, efficient, and enforceable outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer and community focus.
  • Sound judgement with the ability to identify and manage political and reputational risks.
