- thinking Payroll and Assurance Manager to lead our payroll operations and drive continuous improvement across systems, processes, and people.
This is a key leadership position within the greater People Services team.You'll be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services, maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation, and leading a high-performing team through change and optimisation.You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, including Audit, Finance, and HR, to ensure payroll integrity, manage risk, and support strategic initiatives.What you'll be doing:Leading and mentoring a team of payroll professionals, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and service excellence.Ensuring full compliance with payroll legislation, policies, and internal controls.Collaborating with Audit and Risk teams to proactively manage compliance and mitigate risks.Driving continuous improvement and system optimisation across payroll processes.Supporting the delivery of complex payroll services for both Military and Civilian personnel across New Zealand and deployed locations globally.Contributing to strategic planning and workforce initiatives within the broader DHR function.Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and ExperienceTo be successful in this role, you will bring:5-10 years' experience in a senior specialist payroll role within a large or complex organisation.Proven strong leadership experience, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and team development.Deep understanding of New Zealand payroll legislation and best practice.Experience working with auditing, compliance, and risk frameworks.A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify and implement system and process enhancements.Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.We would like to complete interviews and finalise the appointment by the end of the year.
