Heavy Truck Driver
Culham Engineering is seeking an experienced Heavy Transport Driver with Telehandler operating capability to join our project in Taupo. This is a fixed-term, full-time role and a practical, hands-on position supporting site and project operations through the safe transport, lifting and placement of plant, equipment and materials.
This is an urgent placement, and applications will be reviewed as they are received. The role may be filled prior to the advertisement closing date.
About the role
Reporting to the Project Construction Manager, you’ll be responsible for operating heavy transport vehicles with or without trailers, as well as operating a Telehandler to support site lifting and material handling activities. You’ll also act as a pilot driver when required and provide general site support during non-driving periods.
This role requires a strong focus on safety, compliance and professionalism, with regular interaction with site supervision, site staff, and clients.
Key responsibilities- Load, transport and unload plant, equipment and materials safely and efficiently
- Secure, restrain and cover loads using chains, straps and approved methods
- Operate heavy vehicles in accordance with licence, certification and weight limits
- Operate a Telehandler, including safe set-up, load handling and placement in line with site requirements
- Complete lift and task planning, including hazard identification and risk controls
- Inspect lifting equipment and attachments to ensure they are certified and fit for purpose
- Pilot oversize or overweight loads in accordance with regulations
- Complete logbooks, permits, delivery dockets and all transport documentation accurately
- Carry out pre-start checks, routine maintenance and basic servicing of trucks, trailers and telehandlers
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, safe and roadworthy condition
- Assist with site duties and provide support to site teams when required
- Follow all company, client and legislative health and safety requirements
About you
You’re a reliable, safety-focused operator who takes pride in your equipment and work. You’re comfortable making sound decisions, following instructions and working as part of a wider team.
You’ll ideally have:- Full NZ driver licences Classes 1–5 with F, W, T and R endorsements
- Telehandler Unit Standard 23637 (required)
- Class 2 Pilot endorsement
- Bridge Engineering Self Supervision (BESS) certification
- Experience operating telehandlers in construction or heavy engineering environments
- Strong understanding of the Road Code, transport legislation and defensive driving
- A proactive approach to health and safety and risk management
- Project-based role on a site in Taupo
- Varied work across transport, lifting and site support
