He angitūtanga | About the roleHow would you like to be at the forefront of protecting Aotearoa's endangered species from border threats?As Team Lead Border Operations, you'll be joining our Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) team to lead the delivery of this work program.
Reporting to the Border and Species Trade Manager, you will provide supervision, functional leadership, coaching and mentoring to our CITES team members in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. The position will be focussed on:Leading a distributed operational team of 7 staffProviding assistance with the management of complex cases escalated by your teamEngaging regularly with border control agencies to ensure training and delivery needs are being met, and that CITES remains an operational priorityActing as the DOC representative for operational issues raised by border control agencies in line with SOP's, applying legislation and policy to resolve disputes and leading any service agreement negotiationsLeading DOC's implementation of any relevant regulatory changes Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceIf you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:At least 4 years experience leading an operational team; previous experience leading a distributed team with remote team members being a bonusRelevant Science tertiary degree, or equivalent experienceExperience working in a border environment or dealing with border issues (CITES)Excellent relationship building skills, with proactive engagement experience and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholdersStrong understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi partnerships and a proven track record of working with external partners to achieve organisational goalsOutstanding written and verbal communication skillsA broad understanding of conservation management and how it contributes to Aotearoa's future sustainabilityDesirable:Experience collaborating with domestic and international agencies Mō te tīma | About the teamThe Policy and Regulatory Services Group provides strategic direction and thought leadership for DOC and for the conservation system.
