Position: Chef
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent (guaranteed minimum 30 hours per week)

Salary Range: NZD $28.00 to $32.00 per hour (depending on experience)

About Us

The House of Chang Thai is a well-established Thai restaurant located in Whitianga, offering authentic Thai Cuisine in a welcoming and fast paced environment. Under new ownership, the restaurant has been successfully reestablished and continues to grow, focusing on quality food, excellent service, and consistency.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated chef to join our team and support our kitchen operations. This role is key to maintaining our food quality standards and ensuring efficient day-to-day kitchen performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook a variety of Thai dishes to a high standard in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Assist in menu planning, including daily specials and seasonal offers
  • Ensure all food is prepared and presented in accordance with established recipes and quality standards
  • Manage food preparation, portion control, and minimise waste
  • Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, and check deliveries
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen environment
  • Work collaboratively with front of house staff to ensure timely service
Qualifications and Experience
  • At least 3 years relevant work experience as a Chef or Cook in a commercial kitchen
  • Experience working in a high-volume or fast paced hospitality environment
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations
  • Experience with stock control, ordering, and kitchen organisation
  • Ability to prepare a wide range of dishes consistently and efficiently
  • Experience with Asian or Thai Cuisine is preferred but not essential
