Production Supervisor Christchurch

As Production Supervisor at our Christchurch site (a satellite to our Auckland HQ), you’ll be the engine that keeps our weekly packing operation running smoothly. This is a high-pressure, high-responsibility environment, but if you're someone who thrives on taking charge, being 'over to top' organised, and leading from the front, you'll love it here.
You’ll split your time roughly 50:50 between hands-on floor work and admin/coordination, jumping in with the team when needed, while also managing rosters, labour targets, supplier comms, and reporting. We're after someone reliable, independent, and capable of driving both people and process improvement, someone who knows how to get things done without being told twice.
You’ll be the heartbeat of the operation, ensuring every box gets packed to spec, every team member is supported, and every challenge is tackled head-on.
Key Responsibilities:- Independently manage the weekly packing process.
- Handle rostering to meet labour targets without exceeding them.
- Conduct recruitment and staff management, providing a supportive space for training, development, and where needed, disciplinary action.
- Ensure production costs are trending down by improving labour KPIs.
- Oversee crate and pallet reconciliation, ensuring accuracy in balances and returns.
- Manage inward goods with full receipt and quality checks.
- Oversee refrigeration and chilled stock, ensuring proper organisation.
- Order packaging efficiently within budget and with appropriate buffer stock.
- Coordinate with NZ Post on transport, feedback, and dispatch schedules.
- Act as the onsite Health & Safety (H&S) lead — identify risks, promote a safety culture, and manage incident recording.
- Review packing performance, identify limitations, and implement improvements.
- Communicate relevant feedback (e.g., H&S, quality) to customer service, leadership, and procurement teams.
- Drive continuous improvement through team feedback and process reviews.
- Maintain equipment through regular servicing and team training.
- Foster Wonky Box’s culture and values, proposing and leading culture-enhancing initiatives.
- Forklift certificate.
- Experience in production management.
- Proven skills in staff rostering, team management, and training.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety protocols and incident reporting.
- Proficient in warehouse management, including inward goods and packaging orders.
- Skilled in production performance analysis and continuous improvement methods.
- Strong leadership with the ability to build a positive and motivated team culture.
- Able to run the weekly pack process with minimal supervision.
- Effective management of staff rosters aligned to production needs.
- Committed to upholding high health and safety standards.
- Able to maintain and troubleshoot equipment or escalate repairs.
- Strong communicator, confident giving feedback and promoting team culture.
- Competent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Comfortable with numeracy and making quick operational decisions.
