Te Hou Ora Whanau Services is a kaupapa Maori organisation working alongside whanau to strengthen wellbeing, identity and safety. We are seeking a Kaituwhana to walk with whaiora and whanau who are often under pressure, in crisis, or navigating complex systems.

This role is about building trust, creating safety, and helping whanau access the right support at the right time. You do not need to be a registered clinician, but you do need a strong trauma-informed understanding, sound judgement, and the intuition to know what is needed in the moment.

In this role you will:
  • Work alongside whaiora and whanau using grounded, relationship-based practice.
  • Support whanau through periods of stress or crisis in culturally safe, strengths-focused ways.
  • Advocate with and for whanau across health, housing, education, justice and income systems.
  • Help reduce barriers, hand-offs and system overwhelm for whanau.
  • Work as part of a close team that values open korero, shared problem-solving and collective accountability.
  • Maintain clear documentation and engage in supervision and reflective practice.
We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has a strong belief in Te Ao Maori and works naturally in a whanau-centred way.
  • Understands trauma and complexity and can stay steady when things are hard.
  • Brings initiative, intuition and good boundaries to their mahi.
  • Is confident navigating systems and advocating for whanau.
  • Fits our values: open, honest, solutions-focused and accountable.
  • Has a full licence

Experience or registration in areas such as Whanau Ora, community support, youth work, mental health, AOD or social services is an advantage, but not required.

Our way of working: We are nurturing and flexible, and we mahi hard.

We protect the kaupapa and the dignity of whanau.
We are accountable, holding each other with aroha .

We bring solutions, not excuses.

If this sounds like your kind of mahi and your kind of people, we’d love to hear from you.
