Role Overview

The Café Chef will be responsible for planning and preparing café-style dishes, managing kitchen staff, maintaining high food quality, and ensuring smooth, efficient kitchen operations. This role blends creativity with operational excellence — perfect for a chef who enjoys crafting seasonal menus and working in a dynamic, community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and update the café menu with innovative, seasonal, and customer-focused dishes.

Prepare and cook food to high standards, ensuring consistency in taste, presentation, and portion sizes.

Manage daily kitchen operations, including ordering, inventory control, and cost management.

Train, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen that meets all health and safety regulations.

Collaborate with management to create specials, cater events, and adjust menus based on customer feedback.

Monitor food waste and implement efficiency measures.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Chef, Sous Chef, or similar role in a café, bistro, or casual dining environment.

Strong knowledge of café-style cuisine, baking, and light lunch/dinner offerings.

Creativity and passion for food presentation and flavor pairing.

Solid understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen management practices.

Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Flexibility to work weekends, early mornings, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Skills

Barista or coffee knowledge.

Experience in plant-based, gluten-free, or allergen-friendly cooking.

Menu costing and budgeting experience.
