Head Chef and CDP - Gore

We are seeking of an experienced and enthusiastic Head Chef to join our kitchen team! We are open 7 days a week for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Hours of work
This is a permanent role with Minimum 35 to 40 hours per week.
Due to the nature of this role the successful candidate will need to be able to work evening shifts and weekends.
  • Location of the job is Te Anau, Southland.
The successful candidate will need to have a minimum of 3 years chef experience with a NZ Certificate in Hospitality (Cookery) (Level 4 and 5) or equivalent.
  • Pay Banding: $25 - $30 per hour depending on experience.
  • Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Produce high quality à la carte and deli cabinet products
  • Ensure that the kitchen operates according to our systems & in a timely manner
  • Ensures adherence to organisational standards of food quality, hygiene, preparation and presentation in all aspects of the kitchen.
  • Ensures all kitchen equipment and machinery is in good working order at all times.
  • Recommend the organisation of work within the kitchen including assignments, time schedules and employee leave and rostering.
  • Control of food wastage without compromising food quality.
  • Recommends changes in systems and procedures to increase efficiency and improve service levels.
  • Responsible for maintaining of records/documentation as per operational/control requirements.
  • Ensures all food displays are set up and maintained professionally as per organisational standards.
  • Ensures the hygiene standards of all kitchen and storage areas, equipment and machinery.
  • Food Preparation and Service
  • Deliver exceptional service and food quality at all times.
  • Preparation and service of food for Cafe service, baking and catering.
  • Performs other duties relating to food preparation and service as required.
  • Hygiene and Food Safety
  • Ensure a safe working environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents through adherence to safety procedures, carrying out basic maintenance of the kitchen and food preparation equipment and reporting hazards and maintenance issues.
  • Clean kitchen premises and equipment to ensure kitchen is clean and sanitary and in a functional and presentable state.
  • Complete daily and weekly kitchen checklists and cleaning schedules.
  • Follows food and personal hygiene practices at all times.
  • Follow all local laws and company procedures pertaining to food.
We're looking for a CDP to join our kitchen team on a full-time permanent basis. Immediate start available.

Work includes weekends,split shifts on a rotating weekly roster and minimum 30 hours a week.

  • Ideal candidate will be working along with another chef on rotating roster who is genuinely interested and passionate about hospitality
  • Has a passion for great brunch food and baking
  • Reliable team player, Ability to do Multi-tasking, work under pressure

A good knowledge of all areas of the kitchen including cooking, baking, food prep and dietary requirements. You will be well organised, have excellent time keeping skills and the ability to multi-task. You must be clean and tidy in both your person and work station.

You must have at least 2 years minimum experience in a similar role. Experience with Food Safety and using an FCP. First Aid is desirable. Applicants for this position should have NZ Citizenship, Residency or a valid NZ work visa.
