Kynd Supermart Limited trading as FreshChoice Cromwell is looking for a skilled and reliable Butcher to join our team at our busy supermarket in Cromwell. If you have experience preparing and handling meat products, maintaining high food safety standards, and providing excellent customer service, we would love to hear from you.
Location: Cromwell, OtagoJob Type: Full-time (minimum 30 hours per week)
Wage: $26 – $28 per hour (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
As a Butcher, you will be responsible for preparing, cutting, trimming, and presenting meat products for sale in our supermarket. You will ensure that products meet quality and hygiene standards while providing excellent service to customers.
Key Responsibilities- Cutting, trimming, boning, slicing, and preparing meat products for display and sale
- Preparing standard and specialised cuts of beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and other meats
- Weighing, packaging, labelling, and pricing meat products for retail sale
- Displaying meat products in cabinets and ensuring attractive presentation to maximise sales
- Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering and stock rotation to maintain freshness
- Ensuring all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards are followed
- Operating meat processing equipment such as slicers, mincers, and band saws safely
- Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, tools, and equipment
- Providing advice and recommendations to customers regarding meat selection and preparation
- Assisting with inventory control and minimising product wastage
- Working collaboratively with other staff to ensure smooth operation of the meat department
- Previous experience of 2 – 3 years as a butcher or in meat preparation is required
- Knowledge of different meat cuts and preparation techniques
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards in food handling
- Ability to operate meat processing equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment
- Reliable, physically fit, and able to work flexible hours including weekends if required
