- Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the roleThe mission of the Southland Hospital General Medicine Service is to deliver excellent patient care, and at the same time facilitate the development of outstanding Registrars.Consultants work alongside our registrars to provide patient-focused care and high-quality teachingWe handle thousands of inpatients and outpatient encounters every yearFully staffed with trained general physicians, many of whom are also qualified in various subspecialtiesMedical patients are admitted to general medicine, ensuring excellent breadth and depth of exposure to a wide range of medical conditionsOpportunity for exposure to ambulatory work within the onsite subspecialties provided by the dual trained general physicians, which include cardiology, respiratory, endocrinology, nephrology and gastroenterologyWe maintain the care for acutely unwell patients including those requiring ICU admission, which means that advanced trainees can satisfy the high acuity requirement of their training by doing general medicine at Southland, rather than having to do a separate high acuity runAll other medical subspecialties are covered by visiting consultants from Dunedin Hospital.

You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at MCNZWhilst we are interested in receiving applications from those with Medical Registrar experience, RMOs with a minimum of one year post qualification experience and good exposure to general medical runs can applyIt is requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC.
