Stores and Purchasing Team Leader
Our client is a well-established, family-owned engineering firm with over 75 years in the industry. They operate across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific, specialising in the design, manufacture, and maintenance of complex engineering systems, including large-scale custom fabrication and industrial equipment.
With over 90 staff and a newly built, state-of-the-art facility in Upper Hutt, they are one of the region’s most capable engineering workshops. They also have an Auckland service centre and teams based at major airports in Australia.
The Role
We’re looking for a practical, organised Stores and Purchasing Team Leader to manage the end-to-end stores and procurement function at the Upper Hutt site. You’ll ensure the timely delivery and availability of materials for production, lead a small team, and keep the inventory and purchasing processes running smoothly.
This is a key role in ensuring production deadlines are met and stock is well managed.
Key Responsibilities- Manage stock levels and ensure accurate inventory records
- Order parts and materials from approved suppliers
- Negotiate pricing and delivery timelines
- Lead and support a team member in the stores function
- Work closely with production and engineering teams to forecast needs
- Improve purchasing and inventory systems and processes
- Experience in a similar stores/purchasing leadership role (ideally in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial sectors)
- Strong understanding of procurement, stock control, and supply chain processes
- Experience with ERP or inventory management systems
- Great organisational and communication skills
- Ability to negotiate and manage supplier relationships
- Forklift licence (or willingness to get one)
- Relevant qualifications in logistics, supply chain, or operations are a plus
- You must have the right to work in New Zealand
- Able to pass a drug test and police check
