Senior Operations Adviser - Investigation TeamUse your legal and writing skills to support the integrity of policing.Opportunity to ensure IPCA report writing is conducted to a high standard.Work in a friendly, supportive and inclusive organisation.The IPCA is an Independent Crown Entity established by the IPCA Act to investigate and resolve complaints against the Police.
The IPCA receives and investigates complaints alleging misconduct or neglect of duty by Police employees, or concerning any practice, policy, or procedure of the Police. The IPCA also investigates incidents where a Police employee causes, or appears to have caused, death or serious bodily harm.
The IPCA also has responsibility for monitoring and reporting on Police custodial facilities as a National Preventive Mechanism under the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT).We are looking for a Senior Operations Advisor (SOA) to join our Investigations Team.You will provide report writing, legal analysis, operational policy analysis and quality assurance across all of IPCA.You will be involved in a variety of investigation activities, including investigation planning, attending progress meetings, providing legal support, drafting reports and performing quality assurance roles.You will use your strong relationship management and communication skills to liaise with Police investigative staff to ensure effective oversight.You'll be part of a small, friendly organisation which prides itself on working diligently, working with integrity and ensuring that people who come to the IPCA for assistance are provided an excellent and fair service.To be successful in this role you'll need to have a law degree and experience in report writing along with the following:A legal tertiary legal qualification (LLB or equivalent);cultural awareness and recognition of the Treaty of Waitangi as New Zealand's founding document;demonstrated ability to write high quality plain English reports;strong problem-solving and analytical skills;excellent communications skills;demonstrated ability to apply sound judgement;well-developed relationship management skills and the ability to manage difficult and sensitive situations;strong EQ and effective strategies to maintain resilience; andattention to detail and strong organisation skills.If you are interested in this position, please go to our website www.ipca.govt.nz where you can download the Position Description and application form.
