With significant growth and strong pipeline of work, we are on the hunt for an Intermediate to Senior Civil Construction Estimator, who can price work with precision, understand risk, and contribute to winning profitable projects.
You will be a seasoned Construction Cost Estimator who specialises in civil construction cost estimating with a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience You may be looking for the next step or are currently undertaking a comparable role in a similar environment.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, driven, and capable of working both independently and as part of a high-performing team. In this impactful role, you will be providing advice, leadership and direction, actively embedding and promoting the purpose and Traffica’s realistic and hard-working values.
About the role
You’ll be responsible for end-to-end estimating across a steady pipeline of complex civil works, including:
- Roading and transport infrastructure
- Earthworks and bulk civils
- Utility Works – including Streetlighting and Traffic Signals
You’ll work closely with operational, management, and Key Clients to ensure pricing is accurate, competitive, and aligned with delivery capability.
Key responsibilities- Prepare detailed estimates from first principles
- Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and tender documentation
- Build and maintain rates, pricing schedules, and cost databases
- Manage subcontractor RFQs and pricing comparisons
- Identify and price risk, opportunities, and value engineering options
- Support tender strategy and handover into delivery teams
- Develop, submit, and present competitive tender documents, bids, and cost proposals to clients.
- 5+ years’ experience estimating civil construction projects in NZ
- Strong background in Roading, three waters and Land Development Projects.
- Solid understanding of NZ contracts and procurement models
- Commercially astute with the ability to challenge scope and assumptions
- Able to work independently and meet tender deadlines with quality work
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant experience.
- Experience: Proven experience in estimating within the civil construction industry (e.g., roading, earthworks, infrastructure).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software (CAD, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Abilities: Strong mathematical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and ability to interpret technical drawings and regulations.
