About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and capable Gardener/Groundskeeper to join our Facilities Maintenance team on a 12-month fixed term contract. In this role youll help maintain the grounds, gardens, and external environments across Hawkes Bay Hospital and surrounding Health NZ sites in both Hastings and Napier.
Your day-to-day mahi will involve a broad range of groundskeeping and gardening duties, including caring for trees, shrubs and gardens, maintaining lawns and planting areas, routine grounds maintenance, and ensuring paths and paved surfaces remain safe and tidy.Youll also be responsible for weed control, spraying, rubbish removal, general outdoor upkeep, and the safe operation and maintenance of grounds and gardening equipment.
This is a practical, hands-on role that supports a welcoming, safe and well-maintained environment for patients, whanau, staff and the wider community.

About the Team/Service/ Location
You will be part of the Facilities Maintenance team, working closely with the Head Gardener, Maintenance Manager, and wider maintenance and facilities staff. The team is committed to ensuring all Health NZ sites are safe, functional and visually appealing.
Collaboration, communication and reliability are central to the teams approach. You will also interact with contractors, suppliers, and members of the public while representing Health NZ in a professional, friendly manner.

About you
Youre someone who enjoys outdoor work, takes pride in keeping grounds looking their best, and brings a practical, reliable and safetyfocused approach to your mahi.
You will have:
- A horticultural qualification or equivalent practical groundskeeping experience
- A current full drivers licence
- The ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Good timemanagement and the ability to prioritise work effectively
- A sound understanding of health and safety requirements
- Selfmotivation and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
Desired:
- Trades Certificate in Horticulture
- Growsafe certification
- Experienced in driving ride on lawnmowers, use of spray equipment and handling chemicals
Youll also bring professionalism, initiative, a respectful communication style, and an interest in supporting continuous improvement.
