HIPPY Tutor/Home Visitor

HIPPY (Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters) is a home-based early education programme that helps parents to get their 2-5 year-old children ready for success in education. HIPPY Tutors support families enrolled on the HIPPY programme by visiting them in their homes (or virtually) and showing parents/caregivers how to do activities, that parents then use to teach their own child.
You may not necessarily have experience education sector, but you will have a passion for working with families with young children. You will need maturity, an understanding of your environment and be able to connect with the local community.You will be a good communicator, have reasonably good reading and writing abilities, and of course be comfortable visiting families in their homes.
Responsibilities:- Attend initial and weekly training and professional development sessions with your Coordinator.
- Assist at Group Meetings and encourage parents to attend.
- Arrange regular appointments for home visits to deliver workbooks and programme support to families on the programme.
- Collect weekly reports and samples of work from families.
- Keep accurate accountability records, including online timesheets.
- Prepare materials and equipment to be used during weekly tutor training and home visits.
- A genuine interest in Early Childhood Education.
- Restricted or Full NZ driver licence.
- Regular access to your own reliable transport that has a current WOF, Registration and appropriate insurance. * Mileage reimbursements are paid according to IRD rates.
- CV must have at least two recent and contactable references listed.
- Employment is subject to the return of a satisfactory police check, as per the Children’s Act.
Part-time, fixed term position during school terms only. Minimum 12 hours per week, with opportunity to increase depending on caseload.
