About the Role

We are looking for an experienced NZ Registered Social Worker who is passionate about working alongside people in their recovery journey and motivated to deliver an innovative and culturally effective acute mental health service. This is an Advanced Practitioner role with responsibility for in leadership in inpatient social work.

The role will be working within our dynamic Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit (Te Whare Maiangiangi) at Tauranga Hospital

The successful applicant will join a growing and supportive allied health team, working closely alongside Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, and OT assistant colleagues. You will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of Social Work services that will support the existing therapeutic inpatient program, and there will be opportunity and support to develop this further.

Key aspects of the role involving facilitating discharge planning with a range of specialist clinical teams and community services, promoting whanau inclusion in the care pathway, leading Safe-guarding Adult informed practices, and taking a key role within the Zero Seclusion project team.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 80 hours per fortnight.

About the Team/Service/Location

This role will be working in Te Whare Maiangiangi, our Adult Inpatient Unit at Tauranga hospital, where our clients are aged 18 - 65. The team consists of experienced multi-disciplines, including nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologist, psychiatrists, pharmacist, physiotherapist, and Pou Kokiri cultural advisor.

Our team culture is nurturing in nature, and we are supportive of active learning, both practically and academically. We are passionate about improving health outcomes for people entering our unit.

About you

Our ideal applicant will be an effective communicator, who is able to build partnerships with Tangata Whaiora and colleagues, with strong clinical reasoning. We would prefer applications from Social Workers with proven experience in acute mental health but would also consider people with a genuine desire to promote recovery and a commitment to continued service improvement.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys using their initiative to work autonomously within a supportive multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment.
