Location: Wairarapa Hospital

Contract: Fixed Term, Part- time (0.4 FTE)

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

Are you interested in making a difference to how people in the Wairarapa community access crisis mental health and addiction support? You will be working alongside a number of key stakeholders in the Wairarapa district including Wairarapa Hospital Emergency Department, local NZ Police, our MHAIDS community mental health and addiction teams (both adult and younger persons) and NGO/primary health care providers to complete a stocktake and future recommendations for tangata whaiora experiencing acute mental distress.

This is a six‑month, part‑time position, working two days per week during standard business hours. Working days are flexible and will be agreed with the successful candidate.

The salary band for this role is $120,000 - $140,000 (pro rata), depending on experience.

About the Team/Service Location

MHAIDS has an opportunity to optimise our mental health services in Wairarapa, and enhance our capacity to provide timely, accessible support. Working closely with the Operations Manager, Hutt-Wairarapa Locality (Local Adult Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Service) you will also work alongside our MHAIDS adult community mental health and addiction team and the crisis respite service based at Wairarapa Hospital.

You will enjoy working with staff who are dedicated, experienced and committed to the needs of their community.

About you

You will be a senior project manager with extensive knowledge of the Wairarapa community and local networks. Ideally, you will have experience working as a registered mental health professional in rural specialist crisis/adult mental health and addiction services.

Change and risk management is also a core part of this work, and the main focus will be on acute services based in the Wairarapa. The project will also be part of the Local Adult Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Service workstream in the Mental Health and Addiction Change Programme.

This is a fixed term, part time contract and the successful candidate will have six months to complete the stocktake and provide recommendations for future state. Location will be mainly Wairarapa based, however some occasional travel to the main MHAIDS office in Porirua may be required.
