House of Huia is the South Island's premier auction house - a place for all things rare, exquisite, and truly exceptional, where we regularly run auctions for art, antiques, vintage, collectible and estate items.

We have a great opportunity for a friendly, efficient Front of House Receptionist and Administrator. You will be the first point of contact for our clients. Often they're people unsure of how to sell their precious family heirlooms, so you will need a friendly engaging manner, with the ability to relate to a wide range of people, and put them at their ease.

You will have great personal presentation and customer service, excellent English, a strong work ethic, and an interest in the creative and decor sectors like art, antiques, vintage, and collectibles.

In this full time position you will often be in sole charge of the office, and so you will need to be a confident multi-tasker, answering phones, greeting and consulting with customers, and recording and entering data into our back-office systems, so fast confident computer skills are a must.

General responsibilities will include:
  • Maintain strong attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Perform photo editing and basic photography as required.
  • Edit catalogues, ensuring accuracy in layout, content, and grammar.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest and knowledge in the industry/field.
  • Coordinate freight and manage logistics efficiently.
  • Oversee account management, including client communication and record keeping.
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Auction industry experience highly desirable
  • Full Driver's licence
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Organisational skills, ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Physical fitness for lifting and handling goods
  • Great personal presentation
  • The ability to multi-task with complete efficiency and productivity
