Lead and grow a vital service for Wellington women

Growth & Operations Manager – Wellington Women's Health Collective

Since 1986, we've provided low-cost counselling and support to low-income women in Wellington. Now we're ready to grow – and we need someone to make it happen.

The role (0.7FTE $55-65K pro rata)

You'll be our first Growth & Operations Manager, reporting to our governance Committee. This means you'll have real influence: managing operations, shaping strategy, building revenue streams, leading our small team, and expanding our reach across the community.

Your focus areas:

  • Operations – oversee day-to-day delivery, finances, and accountability reporting.
  • People leadership – manage staff, student counsellors, and volunteers.
  • Fundraising & grants – develop a strong pipeline, write winning applications, and grow our income (with potential to expand the role to full-time as we hit milestones).
  • Community engagement – build relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.
You are
  • A capable manager who's led teams and operations, ideally in the not-for-profit or startup sector.
  • Someone who's helped grow an organisation before – you know how to build sustainable revenue and scale impact.
  • An experienced fundraiser (3-5 years minimum) with a track record of successful grant applications.
  • Comfortable with budgets, compliance, and reporting to governance.
  • Digitally capable (SharePoint, social media, basic finance systems).
  • Aligned with our feminist, pro-choice, Te Tiriti-honouring values.

What makes this role different

You're not maintaining the status quo – you're building the future. We're a 40-year-old organisation entering a growth phase, and you'll have a lot of autonomy to shape what that looks like. Your success in fundraising may even expand your own role.

You'll work 28 hours per week plus monthly Committee meetings, with some flexibility around how those hours are structured, noting our offices are open Wednesday – Fridays.

Our values matter

We're a feminist collective. We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We're pro-choice. We welcome all women, including trans women and the LGBTQ+ community. We operate collaboratively, with compassion and without hierarchy.
