Contract Manager - Roading Maintenance

Ventia are seeking an experienced and motivated Contract Manager to lead the delivery of road maintenance services across the Auckland Transport West roading network.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This pivotal role is responsible for all aspects of contract performance, from operations and financial management to stakeholder engagement and people leadership.

You’ll be leading a team of 7 direct reports and 10 indirect reports, driving excellence in safety, quality, and service delivery. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact, grow professionally, and be part of a high-performing, and dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Delivery – Lead day to day contract operations; plan and program maintenance activities; provide expert technical and management guidance to support optimal performance and KPI achievement; Manage contract budgets and reporting; oversee subcontract performance and compliance; ensure contract management plans and audit processes are current and regularly reviewed.
  • Communication and client engagement – foster a collaborative, client-focused culture across the team
  • Continuous improvement – Identify and embed opportunities for process improvements, innovation, and operational excellence
  • Risk, Safety, and Environmental Performance – Champion our “Safe for Life” philosophy and lead by example in health, safety, environmental, and quality practices.
  • Leadership and Team development – Build and inspire a high-performing team; live our core values of Integrity, Collaboration, Challenge, and Ingenuity; Support development and engagement across the delivery team to ensure capability, safety, and quality performance.

ABOUT YOU

You will be a seasoned professional with at least 5 years’ experience managing Transport infrastructure maintenance or construction contracts, backed by a proven ability to lead high-performing operational teams. You’ll bring strong commercial acumen, including experience in subcontractor management, and a solid understanding of NZS3910 and contract delivery frameworks.

Exceptional relationship building and communication skills are essential for the success in this role.

To be considered, you’ll hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, NZCE, or similar qualification, along with a valid Class 1 NZ driver’s licence. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required and familiarity with SAP will be advantageous.

Strong literacy, numeracy, and analytical skill swill help you thrive in this complex and fast-paced environment.
