Physiotherapist Support Kaitiaki (Paeds)

Hastings | www.trademe.co.nz |
We are looking for a skilled physiotherapist who may be looking for permanent part-time work, who specialises in working with children to come and join our whanau, both at home and at daycare. Or maybe you are thinking of a career change into teaching or becoming a support worker with children.

We have three children, one of which has spastic cerebral palsy, she walks with assistance by an adult or in her walker, and she has a powered wheelchair and trike.

We are a fun, busy and loud household and the carer who works for us becomes family!

It’s really important to build a good strong relationship with our 4-year-old, who is full of sass and cheek, she (and all of them) will push your buttons and boundaries so a strong relationship is key. And she will play you to get what she wants, so assertiveness is also important.
An understanding of working with children is essential.

She thrives well in an encouraging, fun, light-hearted, and funny sense-of-humour way.

The role is: Monday to Friday: 13:30-16:30

 •  Supporting our 4y/o at day-care with functional movement, stretches, positioning, walking and standing, through play.
 •  Taking her and her siblings to activities in the community, or swimming lessons.
 •  Taking her to Pudney Hub in Napier, every Thursday afternoon, during school terms.
 •  Personal cares, nappy changes, showering/bathing, toileting, brushing hair, and the like.
 •  Preparation of snacks and light meals, e.g. afternoon tea, maybe the odd cooked meal and supported feeding.
 •  Tidying up after their activities, and light housework to keep things organised.
 •  Keeping kitchen, living and their bedrooms tidy. (House is cleaned so generally tidy when needed and after activities).
 •  Errands and appointments.
 •  Possible additional weekend work when/as needed.

Our values:
 •  Inclusivity.
 •  Manaakitanga; respect, care, warmth, trust and most of all, aroha.
 •  Open communication and Trust.

Our goals!
 •  To have our 4y/o thrive in her environments, use her walker and become more independent through movement and language.
 •  Inclusivity! Ensure she is included in her activities in her own way, with her sisters, friends, peers and community.
 •  To be supported well through her activities and play, indoor and outdoor.
 •  To get school ready with lots of early intervention now.

About you:
 •  You will need to enjoy arts, crafts, music, singing, baking, dancing – all that fun stuff!
 •  You will need to be fit and be able to lift and carry, transfer in/out of wheelchair.
 •  You will be assertive, kind, nurturing, caring, and have a holistic, encouraging, and positive approach to therapy and development.
 •  Be open to adapt to, and use Explore behaviour skills and techniques and help implement them to support the kids.
 •  If you understand neuroplasticity and are keen to work with us to retrain, rebuild and hone in on this area of development, you will succeed.
 •  An understanding of early intervention and keenness to really drive change and excel through supporting her will also prove a success. But not letting her have you do all the work for her, she still has to work and do the mahi!
 •  A keenness to help us get her school ready.
 •  Quite essential, you need a sense of humour to win this girl and, all three girls.
 •  Previous experience related.
 •  You will have a full licence, and your own road-safe vehicle. We will provide the car seats.
 •  You must be eligible to work in NZ.
 •  Another language is a definite bonus!

Police vetting will be done, and references to be provided.

Hourly pay rate is $25- $35 an hour depending on your experience and fit.
