Support for adult with a mild intellectual disability, aspects of autism and borderline personality. Someone with experience working with special needs and or studying psychology would definitely be an advantage. A full Drivers license and car are required.

Mel has moved back to Christchurch almost a year ago after living independently in Hamilton with support from support workers approx 17hours a week. She was doing a paper round 2 a week and worked doing basic admin at Parent to Parent for 2 hours a week until covid.

Mel would like support 2-3 hours on week days Wed and Fri and Saturday's (approximately 6-7 hours a week) late morning or early afternoon preferred. She would like support to go out to community activities, to go grocery shopping, she would like to learn cooking meals from other cultures, company to bike ride and walks.
Mel loves animals she has her cat Lucy who is very well cared for by Mel.. Mel also loves to show photos of her family in Australia nieces and nephews and likes to get photos of them printed.

Mel can be lots of fun and has a good sense of humour but she can misread situations and perceive situations differently and require patience to work through. A previous support worker in Hamilton who worked for 6 years with Mel is happy to talk to a prospective support person to help better understand Mel and what strategies work best when she is out of sorts.

Mel would ultimately like to have a part time job and has in mind stacking shelves in the evening at a local supermarket. She has recently had an interview for such a position but unfortunately they expanded the job to include grocery delivery and so very disappointed she did not get this original 8 hour position.
Once a support person has built a relationship with Mel then being support person with a prospective interview and initially supporting her on the job to understand the routine and requirements.

Mel learns best visually and she likes art for which she has some talent and she currently attends an art class on a Tuesday. 1ver2.30 to 2.30pm. The number of hours and times for a prospective support person are negotiable to suit.
