STEM Tutors

Christchurch | www.sjs.co.nz |
We are a kaupapa Māori organisation that is dedicated to supporting Māori students in STEM-related subjects in secondary school, tertiary education and on to the workforce.

As a tutor, you would visit 1-7 secondary schools a fortnight accompanied by other tutors and a Kaihautū (student mentor) from the academy. You would plan and deliver a biology, chemistry, physics and/or math tutorial (NCEA Level 1, 2 and/or 3) to the students.
You will be supported by other kaimahi and will be given the necessary resources to deliver your tutorials.

One tutoring session is made up of two hours (one hour for prep and travel and one hour for delivery). Hours range from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 14 hours per fortnight depending on how many sessions you deliver.

What you would bring to our kaupapa:

 •  Studying in a science, technology, engineering or maths field at tertiary level or above
 •  Previous experience in tutoring
 •  Effective communcation and relationship building skills
 •  Confident delivering to tutorials to groups of up to 15 students
 •  Passionate about seeing rangatahi Māori thrive.

If this sounds like you, submit your application below.

Once CV’s are screened we will be in contact with all candidates and those shortlisted will be invited to an interview.
