Acorn Charitable Trust is a not-for-profit, multidisciplinary centre for neurodiverse children, adolescents and young adults. We are a team of professionals dedicated to enhancing the lives of tamariki and rangatahi, by delivering evidence-based, whanau-focused services.
We provide speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, behavioural therapy, and mental health services.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
As Lead Therapist, you will work as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team that includes Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech & Language Therapists and Therapists, implementing behavioural therapy programmes under the supervision of a Psychologist and the Clinical Manager.
You will be working in Auckland with a salary range of $62,000- $70,000,

You must possess excellent problem-solving and organisational skills. Your role will involve overseeing a team of therapists as well as implementing and recording data on therapy programmes with clients. You will be responsible for client scheduling and communicating schedules to families.

You will need to be organised, responsible, patient, positive, energetic and enthusiastic, creative and a fast thinker. It is also important for you to have strong play, multitasking, and communication skills with a variety of ages. You will be receptive to feedback and eager to learn.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Building a strong rapport with the client and their caregiver/family.

Work 1:1 with children, implementing individualised behavioural therapy programmes developed by the Case Supervisor.

Recording data on client progress using HiRasmus
Schedule therapy sessions (early intervention and school-aged programme).
This includes regular therapy sessions (in-centre, at home or in the child’s educational setting), client team meetings, rescheduling for staff absences, and communicating any changes with families.
Run weekly therapist meetings to discuss any questions and concerns from the therapy technicians and ensure morale is maintained.
Attend monthly lead meetings with Case Supervisors to act as the main line of communication between therapists and Clinicians/Case Supervisors.
Conduct regular check-ins within therapy sessions with each therapist individually and answer any questions/concerns.
Relay clinical questions and concerns to the Case Supervisor.
Check HiRasmus for any inconsistencies and flag Case Supervisors if found.
Update the therapist “to do list” and ensure there are enough tasks evenly distributed between staff during their time not spent with clients.
Provide onboarding training and orientation to new therapists regarding PowerDiary, HiRasmus and their role.
Attend weekly MDT meetings with the clinical team.
Develop behavioural interventions that focus on skill acquisition and reduce behavioural challenges.
Provide training to parents, caregivers, families and external professionals (e.g., teachers, teacher aides, carers/support workers, and nurses).

Conduct procedural adherence checks with the therapy team
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
2 years experience working with children with autism and/or additional needs and teaching them to use assistive and augmentative communication (AAC)
Supportive leader to your team of therapists
Excellent organisation and communication skills
Masters degree in Psychology, Speech Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Special Education required.
Knowledge and experience in behavioural therapy is an asset but not a requirement.
RBT training or credential is an asset but not essential.
Clearance from a criminal record check
NZ permanent residency/citizenship or valid NZ work visa
