Are you wanting to head out to sea with a respected New Zealand company who has strong values and endless opportunities? Our deep-water fleet has 12 fishing vessels based in Timaru that provide beautiful New Zealand seafood year-round for people all over New Zealand and the world to enjoy.
This is an independent contractor (self-employment) opportunity onboard the San Granit, one of Sanford's Deep Water Vessels, as 2nd Mate you will be responsible for supporting the Skipper and to lead the at sea operation and management of the vessel and crew to produce high quality NZ Seafood.
The San Granit team has a strong values led culture, where people are the operations most important asset. To be successful in this role the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of yourself and your team must always come first. You will have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and the ability to build an engaged and high performing team.
About you
To be successful in this role you will need to:
• MFV-L or NZOW (ring fenced) equivalent or an ADH-F minimum
• Hold a current Maritime Medical
• Have a values led approach of care, passion, integrity and achieving together in everything you do
• Have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the operation
• Adapt quickly and positively to change and to bring people on a change journey
• Have a general understanding and compliance to all relevant NZ Legislation including MOSS, HSWA, Fisheries Act/regulation and MPI food safety
• Have experience with bottom and mid-water trawling operations of a frozen at sea trawler of the San Discovery size and complexity
• Be proactive towards Health, Safety and Wellbeing
• Have a passion for playing your part in delivering high quality NZ seafood to the world
• Be physically and mentally fit
