Duty Manager - U-Bar

Overview: As a Duty Manager at U-Bar, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and exceptional customer experience within our vibrant and dynamic establishment. You will oversee daily operations, manage staff, uphold regulatory compliance, and foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for students, faculty, and guests.

Responsibilities:

  1.  Operational Management:
 •  Supervise day-to-day operations of the bar, including opening and closing procedures, stock management, and general upkeep.
 •  Ensure adherence to health and safety standards, sanitation protocols, and alcohol licensing regulations.
 •  Monitor inventory levels, place orders with suppliers, and manage stock rotation to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
 •  Co-ordinate external contractors e.g. security, cleaners, etc.
 •  Assist in the creation and execution of promotional activations, and ensure all staff have been informed & trained accordingly.
 •  Oversee and record repairs and maintenance.
  2.  Staff Leadership and Development:
 •  Train and mentor bar staff, ensuring they deliver excellent customer service and uphold brand standards.
 •  Create staff schedules, allocate tasks, and monitor staff performance to maintain high standards of professionalism and efficiency.
 •  Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, communication, and morale among staff members.
  3.  Customer Service Excellence:
 •  Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, handling customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints with professionalism and empathy.
 •  Implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction, engagement, and loyalty, driving repeat business and positive word-of-mouth referrals.
 •  Stay informed about current trends, preferences, and demands in the hospitality industry to continually improve the bar's offerings and service.
  4.  Event Coordination:
 •  Coordinate and oversee special events, promotions, and themed nights to attract customers and drive revenue.
 •  Collaborate with university departments, student organizations, and external partners to plan and execute events that cater to diverse interests and demographics.
 •  Ensure seamless execution of events, including staffing, logistics, marketing, and compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  5.  Financial Management:
 •  Control costs by managing expenses, minimizing waste, and implementing strategies in line with market trends and customer preference

About You:

 •  Current or past holder of a General Managers Licence.
 •  Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a bar or pub setting.
 •  Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop a diverse team of staff.
 •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, staff, and stakeholders at all levels.
 •  Sound knowledge of alcohol licensing laws, industry best practices, and health and safety regulations, .
 •  Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
