Proper Snack Foods, the company behind Proper Crisps, is seeking an exceptional Maintenance Fitter for a permanent, full-time position based in sunny Nelson. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will be pivotal for ensuring the smooth operation of the production line and is instrumental in upholding production quality, minimising downtime through preventative maintenance and enhancing equipment reliability.
The main focus of the role will be on daily maintenance and engineering operational requirements and will require someone who is proactive, has a keen eye for detail, with strong hands-on mechanical fault finding / maintenance skills and who thrives in a fast-paced role with the ability to think on their feet.
General Duties Include:
• Conducting routine maintenance / repairs and troubleshooting / diagnosing of mechanical issues
• Conduct maintenance with consideration to relevant food safety standards.
• Working on continuous improvement projects.
• Supporting with the capital projects, from design through to installation.
• Implementing and running a planned maintenance programme.
• Managing seasonal maintenance, including coordination of maintenance activities during plant closures.
• Management of spare parts inventory and procurement.
• Collaborating with the production team to identify areas of improvement.
• Contractor and trade management.
The ideal candidate will:
• Have the ability to problem solve / troubleshoot and understand the sense of urgency regarding production breakdowns
• Be safety conscious and have a commitment to safety protocols
• Thrive in a collaborative team environment
• Have proven experience as a Maintenance Fitter or a similar role within manufacturing
• Have a Mechanical trade qualification or relevant technical certification
• Have proficiency in utilizing maintenance management systems
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of industrial machinery and equipment maintenance
• Have effective communication, good interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team or autonomously
• Be available to pick up and support afternoon and night shifts and do overtime when required
