NB FULL DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED AS IS THE CONFIDENCE TO DRIVE A MOBILITY VAN
The successful candidate will have experience of working with children and an interest in working with special needs children. We are searching for someone who will be a 'good fit' for our family, sharing our values of hard work, humour and honesty.
This role is best suited to someone who is practical and is willing to learn how to use disability equipment such as hoists/slings, toileting chairs, wheelchairs and high/low beds. Training will be provided on two-person manual lifts, application of continence products for day time and evening use and safe feeding practices.
As a Caregiver, you provide a variety of services that allows our daughter to live the most fulfilled life possible with dignity and care.
These services generally fall under three categories:
• Companionship
• Home Helper
• Personal Care
Companionship services are those that stimulate, encourage and assist an individual.
The primary responsibilities of Companionship services include the following:
• Providing companionship and conversation
• Providing age-appropriate activities for Samantha like games, reading books, outings, swimming, etc
• Assisting our daughter to access activities in her community e.g. going to the library, attending art therapy, having play dates or going on outings..
Home Helper services generally involve light housekeeping, errands or incidental transportation.
The primary responsibilities of Home Helper services include the following:
• Preparing meals and cleaning up meal-related items
• Performing light housekeeping tasks
• Washing and ironing laundry
• Running errands e.g. going to the supermarket.
Personal Care services are personal in nature and often include assistance with activities of daily living.
The primary responsibilities of Personal Care services include the following:
• Assisting with bathing
• Assisting with grooming
• Assisting with toileting and incontinence issues
Secondary Responsibilities
Secondary responsibilities include the following:
• Contributing to a positive living environment to enhance our daughter's quality of life
• Performing other reasonable duties as assigned
• Regularly communicating with parents
