Home Building Supplies Store Manager

Nelson | www.trademe.co.nz |
The Organisation

Habitat for Humanity is a well respected international registered charity providing a wide range of home construction, repair, renovation and advocacy programmes aimed at building the strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. We work in partnership with people in genuine housing and social need to eliminate poverty housing across the region.

Ma te whakaruruhau hei whakamana ~ through shelter we empower

Habitat for Humanity has a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, its mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

The Position

The Home Building Supplies Store Manager reports directly to the Nelson Restore Manager and manages a team of six, with supporting volunteers in a recently constructed DIY building (the Shed) adjacent to the Nelson Restore facility.

The role is taking this fledgling initiative to the next level to support the organisations strategic direction. It is a highly collaborative role both internally and externally, where you will be relying on your solid expertise in the building industry, delivering superior stakeholder engagement and team leadership.

You will be energised by the opportunity to lead a team to deliver the organisations goal to build homes across our communities. You will relish the opportunity to make things happen, with the ability to make changes and improvements as necessary, in alignment with your manager.

Stakeholder engagement with product donors is a key component of the role, where your natural communications style and experience builds trust and credibility from them to enhance their understanding and support for the organisations needs. Sourcing quality product that can be re-used and recycled by the publics DIY, building and renovation enthusiasts who are looking for a solid supply of ‘the right’ materials is a priority.

With scope to recruit some of your own team, the effective leadership of the Sheds team, which is made up of six permanent staff and supplemented by passionate volunteer workers, is a critical component for success.

Operating 6 days a week, having a passionate and well trained team is imperative for coverage and where the wellbeing, health and safety in their work environment is a not negotiable given.

The breadth of your role will encompass being part of the Restore Leadership team and part of the greater Restore team, with the opportunity to step up to broader leadership in times of absence of the Restore Manager. The opportunity to analyse and prepare funding grants for equipment and capital purchases for your area, will also be in the scope.

What you will need

A credible background in the building or construction industry, where you can walk the talk when it comes to understanding and articulating the organizational goals and analyzing the product the Shed needs to deliver them.

Exceptional communications skills to influence and create ongoing support from supply providers and engage your team, is a must have.

Demonstrated leadership, with a focus on creating a harmonious, well trained and collaborative work environment that prioritises operating in a safe manner is a key strength. Previous experience in understanding and working with volunteers would also be an advantage.

Proven ability to problem solve, using sound judgement and innovative thinking to find solutions in an environment which not a ‘rinse and repeat’ operation.

If your next career move favours supporting a charitable organisation which already has a winning reputation, you need look no further. Working in the beautiful Nelson region is the icing on the cake for this exciting opportunity where you can create real change to people’s lives.

We are considering applicants who currently live in NZ and have the right to work in NZ indefinitely.
