About the RoleApplications are invited for registrars to work in the cardiology department at Waikato Hospital for a six- or twelve-month run for the 2026/2027 year.These positions are suitable for RMOs who have completed PGY2 or equivalent with a good reference and intend to prepare for the FRACP examination.
It is also highly advantageous for someone who has passed the exam and wants to do a cardiology run as part of their advanced training.The department is busy but the teams are extremely supportive. The service admits approximately 6,000 patients a year and performs 3,000 to 4,000 angiograms, 1,000 angioplasties as well as over 400 electrophysiological procedures in a year.
There are nine cardiologists on the ward plus a similar number of SMOs in the four cath labs working collegially.
