Are we looking for you?

We just might be.

We’re a family-owned daycare in sunny Papamoa, and we’re on the lookout for someone who has a big heart and loves baking and cooking to join our team as our centre cook at The Blue Cottage.

This isn’t your typical kitchen job with no weekends, no evening, no public holidays and family friendly hours of 8am to 3pm.

What we expect from you:
  • Cook and bake our seasonal 4 week rotating menu to provide morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for 90 children. This includes managing allergies and dietary needs with care and accuracy.
  • Ensure everything related to the kitchen is kept clean and hygienic to current legislative conditions. This includes maintaining our MPI Programme 2 accreditation and accurately complete all relevant documentation
  • Monitor and order all stock required ensuring quality and that cost are within budget
  • Enjoy visits and chats from curious tamariki who love to sit at the breakfast bar and watch you work. Be prepared to hear “What you doing?” 500 times a day!
  • Occasionally preparing food for staff meetings or whanau events
  • To be organised, reliable, and self-sufficient. To be curious and ask questions and to make suggestions if you can see a system could be improved or updated.
  • To live The Blue Cottage values and follow The Blue Cottage systems and processes.
  • A warm, friendly vibe as you’ll be part of the team!
What you can expect from us:
  • An employer who takes a genuine interest, enjoys robust discussions and is open to changes and improvements.
  • A team that lives our values and helps each other out. We all survive or thrive together.
  • We promote peoples individual strengths and interests and use them for the collective good
  • Existing menus, recipes and shopping lists to help with your transition into the Cottage
  • Robust, easy to follow systems that mean all requirements are easily being achieved and maintained
  • Small and mighty, inquisitive minds, interested in what you are doing and, if you choose, the ability to step out of the kitchen and share your passion with the next generation of cooks.
  • Opportunities to share your favourite recipes and cook off menu for special events and celebrations
  • Support and professional development opportunities in areas which interest you and benefit the Cottage.
  • A warm, friendly vibe as you’ll be part of the team!
What we’re looking for someone who:
  • Makes yummy baking and loves cooking
  • Gets enjoyment from feeding people and seeing them dig in
  • Is organised, can follow recipes and systems and can also think on their feet and pivot when needed
  • Aligns with our values
