Job Description
We are seeking a highly organised Shipping Coordinator to join our Napier Tannery team. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for coordinating the shipping of hide orders, managing inventory, and ensuring all Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) certification requirements are met.
This is a busy, hands-on role that works closely with Head Office, production teams, transport providers, and MPI representatives. You'll be the key link between daily production activity and the accurate, timely movement of product to customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Administer export orders and ensure customer shipments are completed on time
- Manage inventory levels, reconcile physical stock, and maintain accurate production data
- Process orders through AFFCO's Cedar Creek system
- Liaise with transport companies, shipping agents, and Tasman Tanning
- Complete MPI E-Certs for incoming hides, fleshings, local transfers, and export consignments
- Participate in MPI audits and maintain high compliance standards
- Conduct quality checks on hide figures and production data
- Manage purchasing of site consumables, PPE, and finished product materials
- Oversee cleaning contractor performance and associated administration
- Provide backup support for wages, accounts, and Work-In-Progress reporting
- Carry out general administration duties including reception, mail, courier, and site access management
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience in logistics, shipping, inventory, or production administration
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confidence working with data, spreadsheets, and inventory systems
- Ability to build effective working relationships across multiple teams
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience with MPI E-Certs or primary industry compliance (advantageous but not essential)
